The Boise State University campus

Although I do love an aussie summer, I am enjoying the Boise winter. It is so beautiful to see the sun shining while the town is covered in a white blanket of snow. The sun makes you believe it’s nice outside but it is actually freezing! The days have been averaging about 0-2 degrees celsius during the day and getting into the minuses at night. It is starting to warm up now – and by that I mean today I was able to wear a long sleeve shirt, jacket, scarf and boots and actually feel comfortably warm.

Below are some of photos I have taken of the campus on my first few days of exploring.

The building that I live in
The building is the gym and recreational centre

This is the Student Union Building - its has a few cafes and a bowling alley in it

This is the mountain view that you can see by standing on the street - Beautiful!

The famous Bronco Stadium. I will hopefully get a tour inside soon

As you can see the campus is very pretty. I look forward to seeing it again when the snow has melted and spring starts to settle in which won’t be for a while!

My First Day in Boise

The journey from Canberra to Boise was a long one. It took approximately 20 hours including a delay from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Boise and my journey wasn't exactly smooth sailing...

Firstly I lined up in the wrong line for an hour, was late to boarding because I was bag checked, lost my jacket, the flight was then delayed, once I boarded I found an elderly couple had turned my seat into a luggage holder and weren’t giving it up without a fight. We got hit so hard with turbulence it sent the hostess flying in the air and crashing down, spilling half the contents of the drinks cart onto me while other passengers were screaming in panic.

Los Angeles airport (LAX) was large and boring. There weren’t many shops but there were fast food joints everywhere. I ended up crawling into a ball on some seats and take a couple of small naps since I had only a small amount of sleep on the journey to LA.

Once I had some sleep I went into a small café in the airport and attempted to skype my parents. The signal was rough, however I managed to get in a few words and let them know I am doing well.

Below is a photo of me during my skype session with my parents in a café at LAX.

When I arrived in Boise is was absolutely FREEZING and it was covered in snow. I was told it is unusual to have so much snow at this time in January  it was beautiful. I slept well on my first night and was lucky enough to have minimum jet lag!

Today I had a day of exploring. Everyone I met was extremely friendly! It was nice. Boise was still covered in snow and it was even better during the day with the sun shining, though it was VERY cold if you didn’t keep moving. The Student Union Building is huge! It even has a bowling alley in it. Tomorrow is the first out of two days of orientation for international students. I am looking forward to meeting some students.

Below is a photo of Boise from my bedroom window. The snow is amazing.

Overall, my first day in Boise was great and exceeded my expectations.
